To California and back

In 2007 my dad, sister, and I drove from Oklahoma to California to attend my great uncle's funeral. This is the first real road trip that I remember. Well, we've travelled this route once before, but there was no sight seeing or anything. On the way to California we drove north and then west from Oklahoma. I remember driving through Utah and stopping to pick up a chunk of salt from the side of the road. On the way back from Oklahoma we stopped by Las Vegas. My very first time in Vegas and I couldn't do a damned thing because I was sixteen. I tried to convince my dad to let me wander around alone. At the time I was pissed off because he said no, now that I'm older I understand. No way in hell would I ever let a sixteen year old walk around Las Vegas alone at night.

We stayed at the MGM hotel; the best bed i've ever slept in. However, when we first got to our room the bathtub was filled with water. My dad complained about that and we got two free tickets to eat at the buffet. If you've ever been to Vegas you should know how expensive it is to eat in those incredible buffets. Instead of paying $81 for all three of us to eat, we only had to pay $27. We left Vegas the next day and headed east.

Before going to the Grand Canyon, we stopped by the Hoover Dam. There really isn't anything interesting to say about it because we didn't stay long. Well, it was a very large dam...I'm pretty sure I got a shot glass when we stopped at a gift store there. I was surprised that we had to pay to see the Grand Canyon. It really was beautiful, and slightly scary. I don't think you ever really know how large it is until you see it yourself. Well, from there we went straight back to Owasso, Oklahoma. I like road trips, I do, but sitting in a car for that long is a pain in the ass.

I believe this was in Utah.

Obviously, the Grand Canyon.
